In the realm of iconic videogame enemies, the Pigcop stands above all in its brutal relevance to modern society and police brutality.
First envisioned by designers Allen H. Blum III, Richard Gray, and Randy Pitchford in the initial 1996 release of Duke Nukem 3D, the Pigcop was a direct jab at the Fraternal Order of Police and an even more specific dig at the Los Angeles Police Department due to the Rodney King beating that occurred in LA just a few years before.
In Duke Nukem 3D’s original instructional manual, Pigcops are described as ''extremely intolerant towards humans and exhibit blind rage when they detect human scent.'
That’s perhaps the most accurate description of a police officer we’ve ever read.
Yeah, we had our taste of that with Epic Games back in 2018 and it was brutal. In 2010 Gearbox Software acquired the rights to Duke Nukem. The company is headed by Randy Pitchford, the mind behind Borderlands, Half-Life, Tony Hawk 3, Halo, and the original Duke Nukem 3D.
The ultimate question is, will Randy sue StonedGamer Inc. for using his intellectual property to make a social statement? Quite frankly, we don’t know.
However we do know that Randy Pitchford stands above all gaming developers in his support for Black Lives Matter and the fight for social and racial equality. He’s been chastised by his ‘fans’ for supporting the cause, but that hasn’t stopped him. In fact, the dude’s Twitter avi is still blacked out, and indicator of his support of BLM.
We’re using his property to make a strong social statement at StonedGamer. Defunding the police isn’t enough. We have to abolish the police.
Keep in mind police in America were created solely to track down runaway slaves that escaped the plantation and to squelch slave rebellions. No cap. After reconstruction, police focused on segregation and disenfranchisement among people of color in America.
That’s not a conspiracy theory. That’s American history.
