Results of the FIFTH 2017 Stoned Gamer Qualifying Tournament

We have been resting in the summer heat, stoned gamers. It's been quite the month-long vacation. However the 2017 Stoned Gamer Tournament Season kicked off with a new tournament held on July 27th in Highland Park, CA.

We were equipped with a new generation of Stoned Gamer Arcades, and we wanted to show them off promiently.

Many of you have seen Pot Rocks within the Stoned Gamer Tournament, but the beginning of the second quarter of the season marked a new Official Partner to the Tournament: CaliPlug.

Caliplug is a legend in cannabis distrubition in the Southern California area. Quite honestly, if you've smoked cannabis in the past 3 years within Los Angeles, it was probably because Caliplug provided it to you.

We also saw the return of our great buddies from Molly Water providing all of our Stoned Gamers with some alkaline hydration.

For the fifth Stoned Gamer Qualifying Tournament we thought it was necessary to bring back the MicroTournaments, smaller single-night tournaments held in conjuction with the main Stoned Gamer Tournament.

We tend to go for a blend of retro and contemporary games which are held on multiple consoles/arcades. For this MicroTournament, Stoned Gamers competeted on:

After all the promo was complete and the arcades were ready to fire up, we were a go for the Fifth Stoned Gamer Qualifying Tournament of the 2017 Season.

The gaming was intense, but the fresh cannabis provided at the Tournament was absolutely fire. Check out these shots of CaliPlug.

Of course Pot Rocks always comes with the sheer heat from their infused buds.

The brackets for this Stoned Gamer Tournament were completely filled, so an influx of Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition action happened. If you want to know the full extend of what transpired, we suggest you come to the event. Well, that or wait for the 2017 Stoned Gamer Tournament documentary to come to a media provider near you. At the end of the night we were left with Gizzmoto, Dave, StonerMAX, and 3mpath. The Stoned Gamer Tournament has seen the likes of StonerMAX before, in fact he was at our very first Stoned Gamer Tournament held October 2015 in San Bernardino, CA. Gizzmoto also served as a replacement in the 2016 Stoned Gamer Grand Finale when Marvel vs. Capacom 2 was our primary game. Dave and 3mpath are newcomers to the Tournament.

First up we had Dave up against Gizzmoto.

In a best of three match up, Gizzmoto was victorious over Dave in 2-0. Next up was 3Mpath versus veteran Stoned Gamer StonerMAX.

It took 3Mpath just two games to vanquish StonerMAX and move to the championship match-up against Gizzmoto. The championship match was set -- and we were off in an extraordinarly heated battle between both competitors.

In the best-of-three match up, Gizzmoto grabbed the first round narrowly. In the second match, 3Mpath snatched victory. We were down to the final round when Gizzmoto pulled off a perfect victory to secure his crown as champion of the Fifth Stoned Gamer Qualifying Tournament of the 2017 Season!

That was a wrap for the Fifth Stoned Gamer Qualifier -- and here is the official recap of the tournament as shot by Director of Videography for the Stoned Gamer Tournament, Cynthia Vance.

Now on to the bonus photographs!

Zeus is represented by Galactus in his avatar image because he has an immature obsession with Marvel when they went all sci-fi back in the mid 80s. I'm the creator of The Stoned Gamer, MiddleEasy, and Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Just kidding about the Nickelodeon stuff, but that would be really cool. I also produced nutty things for MERRY JANE, and a former writer for High Times Magazine.
