Wrap-up of TSG #8 Qualifying Tournament held 06/18 at Compassesh

Written by

Fresh off a monumentally bizarre trip to the world of E3, The Stoned Gamer crew found themselves in Van Nuys, CA for the start of the eight Stoned Gamer Tournament of the 2016 season held at Compassesh.

This was our second time holding a tournament at Compassesh this year, and when the powerful Angela Mazzanti wants TSG to be there, it's hard to say no.

We were stoked about the new location, which is simply perfectly for a Stoned Gamer tournament. While the area is secluded, it was right off the highway in Van Nuys. Tucked away in an industrial area, the building that we held the tournament inside was filled with natural light and open air. The breeze that poured in throughout the day was welcomed, especially since California was on the verge of the first day of summer.

Before we even arrived, the tournament was not only filled, but we had more than enough alternates to fill in for people that failed to show. Fortunately, people were lined up, ready to get down on Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in order to win big prizes from Flytlab and Dr. Red's Apothecary.

Returning champion @NickB619 from Team Vader Extracts was on the sticks, along with @roguetoye just getting their practice in since they already advanced to the Grand Finale tournament.

The crowd for our eight Stoned Gamer Tournament at Compassesh was truly immense and props to the crew at Compassesh for providing such a friendly and fun environment.

We rocked the Merry Jane microphone as the entire tournament was broadcast live on Toke W/, and if you haven't downloaded the app yet then you're not fulfilling your duties as a stoned gamer.

You can see all the action from the Stoned Gamer Tournament on the Toke W/ app, but eventually we were left with our Final Four.

In a very heated Final Four, only @710_kookirayne_ and StonerMax (both competitors from our 2015 Stoned Gamer Tournaments) were left in the championship round. We brought the TSG Championship Arcade on stage and then the battle began. Kooki did tremendous damage with Shuma-Gorath by methodically preventing StonerMax from executing his air attacks. In the end, StonerMax's ability to keep the fight at a distance with Ryu was the determining factor in his highly competitive 2-0 win over Kooki.

All of our Final Four contestants advance to the Grand Finale Stoned Gamer Tournament, which will be held at the end of the year. Our eight Qualifier also concludes members of Group B, which will be published on The Stoned Gamer in a few days.

Fortunately we had Jon Gordon McKenzie rocking the camera this tournament. Check out what he manifested:

Oh, and the event photos. We know you stoned gamers love these. Enjoy.

Zeus

Zeus is represented by Galactus in his avatar image because he has an immature obsession with Marvel when they went all sci-fi back in the mid 80s. I'm the creator of The Stoned Gamer, MiddleEasy, and Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Just kidding about the Nickelodeon stuff, but that would be really cool. I also produced nutty things for MERRY JANE, and a former writer for High Times Magazine.
